IPL TREATMENTS

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a flash of light containing hundreds of wavelengths. It can be used for hair removal and skin rejuvenation or photo facials.
Skin treatments include: Improving skin tone, Improve lines and wrinkles, Remove scars, Remove pigmentation, Remove spider veins.
Only hairs that have colour can be treated, so white or grey hairs won’t respond. Success of treatment and the number of sessions necessary depends on your colouring. IPL works best for fair skinned people with dark hair. Fairer skin and red heads will respond to a lesser degree and those with darker skin can be treated but care must be given to their own pigment.
The IPL targets the melanin (pigment) within the hair follicle, heating and damaging the follicles that are in the active growth cycle.
The area is cleansed and gel is applied. After setting the machine to the specific skin type of the client, the handpiece is set against the skin and is activated. A warm prickly sensation will be felt.
After treatment a cooling moisturiser is applied to the area. There may be a slight redness visible for a while.
Rare side effects: If the setting is not correct then overheating of the skin can occur, resulting in burns.
Aftercare: Shower as normal, and apply the suggested creams.
NB: Hair removal will require a minimum of at least 6 sessions as hair follicles are at different stages of growth and the IPL only targets active follicles.
Please note: a patch test is ESSENTIAL at least 24 hours before treatment. We recommend you read all the information on this page in order to better understand the whole process prior to commencing IPL.
