DERMAL FILLERS

A dermal filler consists of collagen material made out of synthetic or natural substances, which is injected into the dermis of the skin to augment the soft tissues.
Mainly used to help correct skin conditions which develop as a result of ageing, such as creases, (nasio-labial) lines, folds and wrinkles around the eyes/forehead.
Dermal filler can also be used for contouring and enhancement, including eyebrow shaping, chin enhancement, acne scars/depressions, cheek sculpting for sunken cheeks, shaping saggy jowls, turning up the mouth corners, nose contouring and lip augmentation.
The principle of dermal fillers is that they have a “plumping” effect. They will plump up the area into which they are injected, levelling out the skin to make it even and no longer sunken, thus giving the result of firm, refreshed young-looking skin.
The fillers are a gel like substance which contain hyaluronic acid., which with time is absorbed into the surrounding tissues, potentially lasting up to 6 months.
Tiny needles are used to inject the gel into the area to be treated. A small amount of pain may be experienced, which can be relieved using topical anaesthetics. There might also be light bleeding from puncture sites, with immediate swelling which can be massaged down.
